Picking the right Leone 1947 boxing gloves comes down to body weight, intended use, and how much padding you want between your knuckles and the target. The chart below — straight from Leone's own glove guide — pairs each ounce weight with the fighter profile it's built for, from kids' 6oz models up to 18oz heavy sparring gloves.
Fit tip from Leone: if you're between two ounces, size up for sparring (more padding protects you and your partner) and stick with the lighter weight for bag and pad work where speed matters.
Leone 1947 Boxing Gloves Size Guide
| Size / Oz | For who | Typical use | Main features |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 oz | Child (children's sizes) | Start-up, technique, light padwork | Reduced padding for small hands, more compact glove |
| 8 oz / 10M oz | Women and small hands | Technical training, cardio boxing, padwork, bag | Agility and speed, smaller footprint |
| 10 oz | Men's and unisex | Light training / fitness, padwork, bag training | Agile and compact glove, great for focus pads |
| 12 oz | Unisex | Sparring light weights (up to 75 kg) | More padding than 10 oz with good agility |
| 14 oz | Unisex | Intermediate-weight sparring (75-90 kg) | Best protection / volume compromise |
| 16-18 oz | Unisex | Intense sparring, heavier athletes (90 kg+) | Maximum protection, softer impact |
How to choose
- Ounce (oz) is glove weight, not hand size — heavier gloves carry more padding.
- For bag work and pads, use a lighter weight (10oz men / 8oz women) for speed.
- For partnered sparring, go heavier (14-16oz) to soften impact for both fighters.
- Ask your coach: training type and partner weight should drive the choice as much as your own body weight.
Not sure between two ounces? Buy with confidence — every order ships with a 30-day return window if the fit isn't right. Browse the full Leone 1947 collection.
