Primo Boxing Gloves Size Guide

Primo Boxing Gloves Size Guide

Pick by intended use, not by hand size. Primo boxing gloves use Asian sizing and an ergonomic, tucked-thumb fit — most fighters own two pairs in different weights to rotate between bag work and sparring. The chart below sets out which weight (oz) suits which kind of training, with body-weight guidance for sparring partners. Primo recommends a 10-12oz pair for bag and pad work, then a 14-16oz pair for sparring and drill work.

Glove Weight Recommended Use Suggested Body Weight
8oz Competition only (pro / amateur fights) Up to 60kg / 132lb
10oz Bag work, pad work, light technical sparring 60-70kg / 132-154lb
12oz Bag work, pad work, technical sparring 70-80kg / 154-176lb
14oz Sparring, drill work, heavier bag work 80-90kg / 176-198lb
16oz Sparring (recommended), heavy hitters 90kg+ / 198lb+

Primo boxing gloves are oz-sized rather than measured to body fit. The figures above suggest what each weight is for, not how your hand will fit inside the glove. If you wear thick hand wraps or have larger hands, size up one oz bracket for headroom.

How to measure

  • For bag and pad work — Primo recommends 10-12oz. Lighter gloves help with speed, snap and precision when striking pads or the bag.
  • For sparring and drill work — Primo recommends 14-16oz. Heavier gloves cushion your training partner and protect your knuckles over long rounds.
  • Two pairs is standard — Most fighters own a lighter 10/12oz pair for bag work and a 14/16oz pair for sparring. Rotating pairs also helps gloves dry between sessions.
  • Hand circumference — Primo gloves use Asian sizing and run a tight, ergonomic fit. If you have larger hands or wear hand wraps thicker than 180-inch (4.5m), consider sizing up one oz bracket for room.
