The UFC and fight fans across the world were left stunned as the eagerly awaited clash between Irishman, Joseph Duffy and Dustin Poirier was called off with less than 24 hours ago before the event was set to begin.
An injury to Joseph Duffy has left Poirier without an opponent as we head into the event at the 3Arena in Duffy's country of birth. Further details have been released, pointing to a concussion endured during strike training was the reason for Duffy's withdrawal and has left UFC officials scrambling as the much-hyped Fight Pass main event is no more. This isn't the first time an injury has rocked the Fight Pass event scheduled to take place in Dublin, as the heavyweight clash between Ben Rothwell (35-9 MMA record, 5-3 UFC record) and Stipe Miocic (13-2 MMA record, 7-2 UFC record) was also removed from the card after Miocic picked up an injury.
You can check out the tale of the tape below to gain some insight into these fighters as they're sure to meet again in the future once Duffy is back to full fitness. In the meantime, a bout which was initially not even on the main card, has now been promoted to the main event spot. This grants flyweights, Paddy Hoolahan (12-1-1 MMA record, 3-1 UFC record) and Louis Smolka (9-1 MMA record, 3-1 UFC record) huge and unexpected opportunity to make a name for themselves, and to appease a legion of disappointed Irish fans who will pack the arena.
