Fight fans, mark your calendar for the 27th February as the legendary Anderson Silva will finally return to the UFC, following a widely-publicised suspension for testing positive for Androsterone, which capped a torrid couple of years for the once untouchable Brazilian. Silva was widely hailed as the greatest fighter in the world during his dominant run from 2006-2013, which saw him set a UFC record for the total number of undefeated fights.
Across the Octagon from Silva, will be England’s very own, Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping. Undoubtedly one of the hardest working individuals in the sport, Bisping has competed in 24 UFC bouts, despite never being involved in a UFC title fight. Victory over Silva at UFC Fight Night 84 would place Bisping right in contention for the right to fight for the UFC Middleweight Championship.
As is almost customary of hugely-anticipated UFC main events, the sparks began to fly weeks out from the opening bell with Silva taking to Instagram to mock his opponent for accidentally hitting a training partner during a session with the pads. Silva also managed to raise a few eyebrows with his reluctance leading up to the fight, which at one point looked uncertain as to whether it would happen or not.
Unsurprisingly, the no-nonsense Bisping didn’t take lightly to Anderson’s antics, framing the enigmatic Brazilian fighter as an “absolute fake”. Bisping, who is England’s most successful UFC fighter to date, isn’t about to overlook the potentially devastating consequences of being on the end of one of Silva’s trademark strikes, stating that "Yes, I also have to be wary of his finishing ability but I'm stronger, younger, fitter and better looking so what more can I ask for?"

As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts on this massive fight. Bookies currently favour Silva to mark his return to the UFC in style, but will he be able to overcome the power and fitness of Bisping? In front of what will surely be a heavily partisan crowd in favour of the Manchester based fighter, it’s surely too close to call.
